Thanks to the Community Foundation, I'm back in the hosting business. It's really just a subset of the hosting that I'm already doing for our website(s) but it is nice to have some extra work. So:

I've also got a "maybe" project going: a facelift for a local business. Compare this (current) with that (new). I hope it works out.
Here's the problem: I know I need to keep better track of my projects, and the changes to those projects. For instance, earlier this week I was trying to set up a demo for a potential customer and I had a hard time going back to a tested, stable version as opposed to the current version that I have been working on. You see, I have always worked directly on the working copy... and that is a bad thing.
Here's the solution: (I think) CVS -- Concurrent Versions System. If only it were easier to use.

A few months back, Kevin was asking me if we were going to register for baby gifts for this child like we did before Hale was born, and if people would have baby showers for us again. The answer to both of those questions, of course, is no (much to Kevin's disappointment...I think he enjoyed using the scanner at the baby store when we registered for Hale). So we were quite pleasantly surprised and touched when we received baby gifts last night at a shower that we hosted for two other pregnant couples!!! It certainly was not the receiving of gifts that was so heart-warming to me, but the fact that these friends of ours wanted to do something special for our new baby. So when he/she starts complaining in a few years about how Hale got everything and the second child always gets the shaft, I'm going to bring up the story of what occurred last night.
So...
Thank you Brady & Shawna (& Emily) and Chuck & Erin (& Evan) for the generous gifts that you "showered" us with. And best wishes to all of you as you welcome your first little ones into the world in a few weeks! We are looking forward to being parents with you!
I recently got a PDA and was troubled by the fact that I couldn't read 348North News on it very easily. You see, the screen on my Tungsten C is only 320x320 pixels and it just doesn't deal with wide webpages very well. For reference, the screen on our ibook is 1280x720 px.
After banging my head on the desk for about an hour, I finally came up with an easy (and transparent) solution. Access the site from a computer and you get the regular version -- access it from the PDA and you get the plain-jane type.
The only bad part is that I may be the only one who wanted this feature...

I need to apologize to those of you who frequent our pages here--I've made myself too busy to add anything to the site lately. For that, I apologize... to all three of you who read this site. :)
Since I've been gone, there are a couple of new things that I should point out. Namely the root domain (www.348north.com) is now a news'ish type website that hourly pokes around the web and finds new articles and such. It satisfies my news urge--makes me feel all up-to-date. And I learned a thing or two in the process, which can never hurt.
Jill and I are also getting the house ready for our newest baby; due hopefully within the next 4 weeks. (weeks, Jill. not days... sorry.) Pray for us as Jill goes through that and we get used to two kids running (around) the house. In preparation for that, we just this week finished the upstairs bathroom. Out with the old wallpaper, in with the new paint and fixtures. We also took the opportunity to paint the kitchen. Only 8 or 9 more rooms/areas to go! :( It is a little fun, though. Thanks to mom J for all her help.
You may notice some new entries on this site shuffled in between the regular posts. (here, here and here for instance) I had a different "technical" journal for a little while, but figured I'd just consolidate. No need for alarm.
It's good to be back.
Tonight's the night - Hale will be staying in his big boy room for the first time (notice I didn't say that he will be SLEEPING in his big boy room)! The room is decked out in a nautical theme, and with so many new things to look at and freedom from the confines of a crib, we are sure we're in for quite an experience! Thank goodness for baby gates!
