Fall colors... the science

birch.jpgAs we get on towards winter we stop off here at what has become my favorite time of year: fall. Let me tell you a couple of the reasons:

  • warm days, cool evenings
  • frost keeps bugs out of sight
  • sweaters and sweatshirts!
  • holidays
  • food: turkey, turkey leftovers, turkey sandwiches, etc.
  • fall break?
  • shorter days that hopefully get us off to bed earlier
  • flurries!
  • of course: turning leaves

This last one is what prompted the whole list -- I happened upon a website today that describes the process that turns green leaves into the oranges, reds, and yellows. Take a look! It is a pretty short description, by a professor at the University of Wisconsin, as a chemical of the week.

Also, please feel free to email me your favorite fall tree pictures and I'll post them on the site. Email to krjordan -at- gmail -dot- com

International CXT

CTXI think I have a couple of brothers who wouldn't mind this thing sitting in front of their homes. The International CXT. Move over, girlie' Hummers.

Born out of a 20-ton hauler and other International severe service trucks used by the construction, government and waste industries, the International CXT is built on the same platform as dump trucks and snowplows. As a result, it is a vehicle unrivaled in capability, size and appearance. It hauls three times the payload of consumer pick-up trucks, is all-wheel drive, uses air brakes for unmatched stopping ability and offers towing, dumping and tilt bed capability. Additionally, it features a spacious interior with crew cab design that seats five and can be customized to meet owners' specific needs from paint color to air seats to flat screen TVs. For example, for people who want to make a statement while driving in luxury, try a customized black International CXT with ghosted green flames that has a leather interior with wood grain trim, reclining captain chairs, a fold-down bench that can be used as a bed, an overhead compartment with drop-down DVD, an XM satellite premium radio system and a rear-mounted camera for increased visibility behind the vehicle.

Have you ever seen the commercial where the guy's garage dwarfs his house? Apparently he owns one of these things. Can't wait to see my first one on the road.

Gmail invites

GmailSome of you might have heard that Google is offering 1GB of free webmail on a invitation only basis. I, as usual, had to reserve my standard "krjordan" address as quickly as possible -- if I had to remember another address or login I would faint. This way I only have to remember passwords. Anyway, I now have several invites to give out. Email me at... well, based on what I just wrote if you can't guess my address(es) maybe you don't deserve an invite; otherwise drop me a line.

I actually won't use the gmail account much so please email me at the 348north address if you actually want to converse. To me, gmail is more of a novelty thing; I get email accounts thrown in with the hosting of this website.
