Mail.app and a self signed SSL certificate

Since I no longer use my BSU email address, the compelling reason for using Entourage — that is the ability to easily integrate with BSU’s Exchange Server — has gone away. I’ve begun using Mail.app instead with several IMAP mailboxes. All is fine and well other than this darn SSL certificate that my ISP uses for the mail server. It isn’t that it’s all bad, Michal is just saving a few bucks by generating his own certificate instead of paying Verisign or someone for it. No big deal other than the nag screen from Mail.app telling me about the certificate every time I open the application. It is not acceptable!
Luckily a search today turned up the answer to the problem, namely this Knowledge Base article entitled Mac OS X 10.3 Mail: About SSL, IMAP accounts, and “Remember my decision” which is a bit out of date on my 10.4 system but got me there. Basically there is no “Remember my decision” in 10.4’s version of Mail.app and anyways it must not have worked as labeled in 10.3 either since they had this KB article…
Here’s what I did to get rid of the nag screen. When the offending error message came up I clicked to view the certificate and then drug the cert icon to the desktop. From there, I opened a Finder window and traversed to /Applications/Utilities/ and located the Keychain Access Application. With Keychain unopened, I drug the cert file on my Desktop and dropped it on the Keychain icon. Keychain launched and asked which keychain I wanted to add the new certificate to. I chose X509Anchors and clicked OK. The system had me give a administrator password to authenticate the action.
Nearly done, I closed Keychain Access and restarted Mail.app. No nag screen!
