Quicken replacements for Mac
![]()
While we don’t use Quicken for our personal finances, I know that many people do. So in thinking about moving a loved one to the Mac platform it seems that Quicken might be a thorn in the side.
It isn’t that Quicken is not available for the Mac, it is — Quicken 2006 has been around for some time and is now up to a third revision already (at $69.99 USD). The concern I have is with those that are having such trouble, as outlined on this macintouch page. It seems that Quicken 2006 does not match the Windows release feature for feature (which I’m unsure of how big a deal that is) nor does it seem to work reliably in all cases (albeit anecdotally). So, I did a brief search to see what else is out there that has some Quicken interoperability. Here’s what I found that import the Quicken Interchange Format (QIF) files:
Liquid Ledger: international program with international support. Looks very impressive. (free trial, $90.00 CAD)
Moneydance 2006: looks like a multiplatform Java program, so might not be the speediest or prettiest on an older mac. (free trial, $29.99 USD)
CheckBook: seems to be the simplest of the lot, but could provide all the functions needed. (free trial, $17.95 USD)
