That's the title of a popular song from a couple years back. As it goes, "Oops, I did it again. I played with your heart. Got lost in the game..." The song, to an extent, makes light of breaking someone's heart. But as most of us know, this kind of thing is not a game.
Someone I love more than life itself had his heart "played with" yesterday. I wish I could erase the experience for him, but I can't. Nobody can, not even the person that said the hurtful words. And that is my point: we can't take back words, we can't undo the damage that hurtful words cause. We can't make excuses for ourselves when we lose control.
We all make mistakes, sometimes irreparable ones. But we must admit those mistakes, learn from them and choose not to repeat them. When we choose to hurt someone, we move into dangerous territory, and often we pay a hefty price.
